When did the first humans appear

The emergence of modern humans, known scientifically as Homo sapiens, is estimated to have occurred approximately 200,000 to 300,000 years ago. Fossils found in Morocco, specifically at the Jebel Irhoud site, have been dated to around 300,000 years ago, making them some of the oldest known remains of anatomically modern humans. These early humans exhibited features similar to those of contemporary humans and were capable of using stone tools.

The evolutionary journey leading to Homo sapiens began much earlier. The genus Homo, which includes several species of early humans, first appeared around 2.8 million years ago with Homo habilis. This species is notable for its use of stone tools and represents an important step in human evolution. Prior to that, hominins (the group that includes modern humans and their ancestors) diverged from other primates approximately 6 to 7 million years ago.
